Neurolinguistics is an area of therapeutic change-work which seeks change through the connections between thoughts, behaviour, language and physical bodily movement.
IEMT (Integral Eye Movement Therapy) was developed by Andrew T. Austin (www.integraleyemovementtherapy.com), from certain neurolinguistic methods and discoveries, using guided eye movements to assist clients who experience persistent problems in their lives that they have been unable to solve.
Guided eye movements bring about a modification of the linkages and associations held in habitual, problematic thought patterns and/or behaviour, feelings etc. This allows access to new perspectives on the problem and its solutions.
IEMT is primarily used for problems related to unpleasant memories from the past; for uncertainty or anxiety about the future; or any undesirable emotion, behaviour or thought patterns – all of which may be connected to ongoing physical symptoms of illness. IEMT also addresses issues of identity and relationship issues with ourselves or other people and situations in our lives.
IEMT is equally effective whether or not the client wishes to disclose details of their problem to the therapist and, since the changes are generated by the clients own internal mental resources, they are completely “ecological” on all levels in the clients life.
Sessions usually take between one and a half and two hours and the cost is 40 euros per hour. Reductions are sometimes available for those who are financially challenged.
